| Description | Cotton; plain weave, warp ikat, transverse weaving.; natural dyes including racine du "kumbu" ("Morinda citrifolia") pour le rouge.. Composé de deux panels verticaux assemblés lisière contre lisière. Le décor, rouge, écru, bleu sur ground bleu-noir, s'échelonne en registres de hauteurs différentes : motifs de cerfs, arbres à crânes, animaux aîlés. Le tissu est terminé par des fringes preceded by transversely-woven selvedges called 'labang'. Nobility cloth — the hinggi is worn draped over the shoulders or knotted around the waist. A la mort de son propriétaire, il peut aussi servir de linceul. La présence of the "kabakil" — narrow bands woven just above the fringes — signals that this hinggi was reserved for gift exchanges which allowed princessumbanais de aintenir leur rang et d'affirmer leur prestige |
